REPORT FROM DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES Ann Goodhart advised of new loan rules -changes to fines, fees, and borrowing periods passed by the Board earlier this year went into effect on September 25th. These changes were adopted to create uniformity in the loan policies across the North Shore. The biggest change is the move from a four week loan to a three week loan period for most books. Staff throughout all departments have been busily working to develop content for the library's new website. The focus has been to make our excellent collection of databases -including online encyclopedias, magazine and newspaper articles, career information, business data and much more - easier to find and easier to use. Development of "Information by Topic" pages, where patrons can get one-stop access to the very best resources (websites and databases) on a topic. This month, a new database was added to the list of e-resources, courtesy of funds from the Welsh bequest. Grove Music Online is the world's premier authority on all aspects of music - it is particularly strong for classical, jazz and opera, and includes articles, biographies, discographies and audio clips. It will be an excellent companion to the library's two online listening libraries, Classical Music Library and Naxos Music Library. BOOK CART REPORT Patricia Treadwell Book Cart Sales for the year now total $4,776. However, as we are short of pocketbooks for the cart, we would appreciate any donations you may have. Please leave them at the front desk on Thursdays only, as this is the only time the staff has allotted to look through them. The new volunteer name tags help in easily identifying the workers to the library staff. Thank you for your co-operation.
