Friends of the Library Issue 187, October 2006 West Vancouver Memorial Library SEPTEMBER BOOK SALE It was a perfectly wonderful Fall week-end. One to enjoy a long walk, or to work in the garden putting tender plants to rest for the coming inclement weather. However, many dedicated Friends were at their beloved Library working at the Fall Book Sale. We enjoyed each other's company as well as some home-baking, thanks to Edda Davis and Barbara Drummond. Everything went very smoothly, and we would like to thank all the volunteers who participated to make it successful, especially to Noreen Avery, who works tirelessly in "The Pit" and at every book sale, categorizing and organizing the stock. Also, to Barbara Drummond and Grace Kravac who spent most of their week-end at the sale. Thank you to the Library staff for their support and patience during this disruption to their daily routine. The post-sale clean-up took place on Monday in the Peters Room and everything was organized and returned to "The Pit" by the afternoon. Great work by all who participated and especially Chad, Roman and Ian from maintenance, who worked like Trojans, and were always polite, helpful and a delight to have around. We couldn't have been so organized with them - it was the fastest clean-up in history! Our concerted effort generated $4,200. in revenue. Through the efforts of a number of Friends, most of the remaining books have found new homes. Patricia and Chris Treadwell delivered about 15 boxes of health related books to the Health Action Network Society, who were eager to receive them. Some books went to Heffly Creek Elementary School for their spring White Elephant, some went to a village in Mexico, and some are going to the St. James' Society. We do have a variety of children's foreign language books (mostly Asian, but also a box of miscellaneous European, especially German), and adult Persian books. If you know of anyone who can use these books, please contact Barbara Drummond (604)922-7658 and arrange to pick them up.
