VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION TEA A delightful affair not to be missed! Although it was scheduled early in the morning, so the Library staff could also attend, many Friends turned up to enjoy the refreshments and to socialize. Our genial hostess, Michelle Sproule, Volunteer and Art Gallery Co-ordinator, ensured we were treated royally, with a delicious assortment of goodies, while Tony Strachan accompanied us on the piano. Each guest was presented with a package of tastybiscuits which were innovatedly wrapped in a bright cotton striped tea towel, by the deft hands of Ann Goodhart. A "Volunteer Pass'* to the community facilities was also received by all the guests, and a few lucky people won door prizes. Ann expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude for our gracious hosting of library events. Nicole Brown attended on behalf of the Board of Trustees, and proposed a toast to all the hard working volunteers by reading a poem written by Suzanne Hartgraves, (Calif, 1996). A TOAST Raise your glasses in the air And give three rousing cheers To all of the extraordinary super volunteers. They always share their time with enthusiastic hearts They appear from out of nowhere to do their special parts. Whenever there's a project or a task to be completed, you can always count on them they never are defeated. Their smiles are genuine and their attitudes are winning Surely they must be the ones who keep this community spinning. So if there is a job to do - don't shrink back in fear, just seek out the expertise of a library volunteer. The Friends took this opportunity to thank and honour our irreplaceable past President Sophia Weremchuk for her outstanding and dedicated service. As a token of our appreciation she was presented with a certificate of achievement for her many years of invaluable work, and a Milestones gift certificate along with a bouquet of flowers. Sophia was also presented with an impressive leather-bound certificate of appreciation from The District of West Vancouver, duly signed by Mayor Pamela Goldsmith-Jones. ARTIST RECEPTION The Art Gallery presentation during June featured a collection by Helen Keyes, exploring the concept of "TIME" from a personal perspective in a playful and humorous way, which attracted a young, vibrant crowd with lots of children. O f course, the children were more interested in the cookies, strawberries and grapes! Thank you for hosting - Edda Davis, Arden McLaughlin and Kim Vogt. "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." Pablo Picasso NORTH SHORE WRITERS' FESTIVAL Pam Douglas, our Library's Programme Coordinator, has sent us a "thank you" letter for our continued support of this popular programme, which was held April 19-29. Our financial contribution this year was $1,479.68. CAPILANO KIWANIS CLUB Once again the Kiwanis Club of Capilano has generously donated $1000 to the Friends of the Library for the purchase of materials for the print impaired.
