VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION TEA After hosting so many receptions in the past, the Friends were on the receiving end of a delightful reception in honour, and to thank, the many volunteers and members of the Friends who have made a significant contribution to the WVML. Our amiable hostess, Michelle Sproule, Volunteer and Art Gallery Co-ordinator, ensured we were served tea, coffee, punch, and delectable little sandwiches and sweet treats. Each guest received a tea mug stuffed with a tea bag and a "Volunteer Pass" to the community facilities. Several volunteers received their "5,10, and 15 Year" awards and the Friends received commendation for their involvement and many contributions, which include*, two annual book sales plus the daily book sales cart, both of which entail endless hours of sorting and lifting of heavy boxes; hosting receptions for Remembrance Day, the Art Gallery, Author visits, North Shore Writers' Festival, Concert Series, and many other community and social events; financial support for the North Shore Writers' Festival, Community Day parade, and the Summer Reading programme, and fulfilling the Library's annual "Wish List"; participating in the Library's home book delivery services; and providing fresh flowers to brighten the Library. Door prizes were received by some of the lucky guests. It was a great party! ART RECEPTIONS The month of May was a celebration of Youth and our Library Gallery showcased the artwork of several budding North Shore artists. They were extremely excited to have their very own reception on May 6 , and their friends and relatives were there to support them. Our gracious hosts were Edda Davis, Maureen Eagle, Claire Giberson and Kim Vogt. During July, the Gallery presented "Wild Things", a display of the works of Eileen Mosca, Pamela Roberts, Lindsay Ross, Jean Taylor and Natalie Wein. August ushered in the dynamic elements of emotion, light and nature in a multimedia exhibition entitled "Capturing Nature", featuring three local artists, Helen Ott, John Steil and Chang-ho You, The Sculptures Society of BC's inaugural exhibit which paralleled with the Harmony Arts Festival, included works done in bronze, wood, stone and other materials by artists from the Lower Mainland, Interior and beyond. "Courting Sculpture" was displayed in the original garden courtyard of the Library. Friends hosting were Cathie Clinch, Edda Davis, Natalie Logan, Miriam Olney, Kim Vogt, and Sophia Weremchuk. Welcome Gallery Co-ordinator, Laila Noormohamed, who is replacing Michelle Sproule while she is on maternity leave. Congratulations to Michelle and family on their new arrival.
