IN THE GALLERY Our gallery co-ordinator Andrea Noble, reported the Call to Artists held on October 16th was a huge success with about 30 of the 60 artists' work being accepted. Thanks to Friends, Wayne Leigh-Spencer, Hengameh Soofi and Natalie Logan for assisting. Andrea was also pleased to announce that the Library is planning to hold six Musical Evenings throughout the year. Although these events are free, admission will be by ticket only, available at the Library in advance of the evening. The exciting news is that Marcus Mosely will be the featured performer at the Libary's first Musical Evening, to be held on Friday, November 26, 7:30 PM. Friends will be hosting, and thank you Kay Alsop and Marlene Scott for graciously volunteering to be the coordinators for the Musical Evenings. The monthly art gallery receptions are being very well attended and the Friends hosting is much appreciated. Our October event featuring the "Bowen Island Art Group" was extremely well attended and two paintings sold. Our busy hostesses were Edda Davis, Marie Evans, and Kim Vogt. November artist, Bob Rennie, "Around the World in Oil <& Watercolour", sold one painting. Hosting were Edda Davis, June Harris and Kim Vogt. AUTHOR VISITS These evenings have been most enjoyable and cover a varied range of subjects and issues. On October 27th we were entertained to a piece of Welsh Theatre, "Under Milk Wood", which was beautifully performed by six veteran Vancouver actors. Complementing the evening, Maureen Eagle and Sophia Weremchuk, served refreshments which were enjoyed by everyone. CHRISTMAS PARTY Please mark your calendar and come out to meet the "Library family". This is a great social event and we encourage all Friends to attend on Thursday, December 16th, from 4PM to 6PM in the Peter J. Peters Room. Your invitation is enclosed with this newsletter. A reminder that there is no better way to meet the Friends, than attending these social occasions, and by participating in our monthly luncheon meetings, which at times turn into parties. Our November 24th meeting is the last before our ASM in January, so please join us, we would love to see you.
