ANNOUNCEMENT It is with great sadness that we inform the Friends that our long time supporter Jola (Jolanta) Collins passed away in July. We could count on Jolanta to be at the meetings and always helping on the cash at the Book Sales. She was a gracious lovely Friend who will be missed. FRIENDS FUNDING With our healthy bank balance and our successful book sales the Friends approved the Library's "wish list" for 2004: 1) extension of the sound system throughout the Library $3500; 2) replacement of 6 computers in the Computer Centre and/or purchasing an additional 6 computers depending on the cost. BOOK CART SALES We had a good summer, books were flying off the cart keeping our 3 "replenishing book cart" teams very busy. Together with coordinator Patricia Treadwell, the Friends thank everyone involved in keeping the cart stocked and tidy during the summer months. Great team work Bee Barker, Marvin Childs, Cathie Clinch, Irene Caudwell, Edda Davis, Peggy Keene, Betty O'Sullivan, Hengameh Soofi. ART RECEPTIONS July 2nd there were 103 guests at the Library Art Gallery opening featuring artists Jane Armstrong, Julia Baker, and Jean Bonvini. Our hostesses were Lillian Chow, Eileen deBues, and Marie Evans. August 6th featured 14 artists, with 131 guests in attendance, and 3 pieces sold. Friends hosting were Cathie Clinch, Edda Davis, Grace Kravac and Kim Vogt. September 3rd Martin Henry, Maryam Rais-Rohani, and Ramin Jamalpour exhibited "September Views", attracting 131 guests on a rainy evening. Busy hostesses were Cathie Clinch, Edda Davis, Irene Esson, and Sophia Weremchuk. Our punch is still the number one beverage of choice. We are sincerely grateful to the Friends who regularly participate in hosting these events and thank co-ordinator Kim Vogt for ensuring they are presented so graciously.
