NEWSLETTER Issue 172 October 2004 West Vancouver Memorial Library SEPTEMBER BOOK SALE GREAT EFFORT Total for the 3 day event = $3,677. Friday (Friends Only) 40 sales = $377. Saturday 424 sales = $2,751. Sunday 129 sales (including 40 brown bag sales @$3.00 ea.) $549. It's a lot of work putting it all together and the success of the Book Sales is due to the effort of so many Friends and Library staff especially the maintenance staff who help with the set-up, clean up, hanging and removing the banners, and picking up the much needed boxes. A tremendous thank you to the Friends: Kay Alsop Ron & Noreen Avery Helen Brewer Bill & Ann Busay Claire Cameron Marvin Childs Irene Caudwell Barbara Drummond Michael Dyck Maureen Eagle Rosemin & Mohamed Ebrahim Irene Esson Marie Evans Ted Hill Juliet Janes Ted & Grace Kravac Wayne Leigh-Spencer Natalie Logan Lindsey Lorence Elsa O'Connor Wanda Osborne Betty O'Sullivan Tom Reid Gloria Richardson Brendan Rowell Marlene Scott Betty Stephen Olive Thompson Melba Weber Sophia Weremchuk What a year this has been, in February our sales totaled $4,703. The total from the two sales being $8,380, the best ever from book sales since we moved upstairs. 2001 sales = $5,503 2002 sales = $5,048 2003 sales = $3,606 (only 1 sale) However, we did have a $350 expenditure as our Park Royal banner needed to be replaced because it was destroyed by heavy winds last February. Thank you to our Book Sale Committee: Barbara, Grace, Kay, Marlene, Maureen, Natalie, Noreen and Sophia. Their suggestions and "post-mortem" analysis have increased the efficiency and fine-tuning of our sales. It is interesting to note, we had over 225 people walk through the Library's front door between 9-10 Saturday morning and there were over 25 waiting for the sale on Sunday morning. A special thank you to Noreen Avery for the overall organization of the book sale and for sorting through all the remaining books, some of which will be retained for our next sale in February and others are destined for new homes, and to the "Pit Crew" for their steadfast sorting and handling of the books in preparation for the sale and ensuring the book cart is always stocked. A very special thank you to Wanda Osborne for supplying the workers with her wonderful home-made biscotti. They have become a tradition.
