Treasures of our Memorial Library The Library's Files of Periodicals and Newsletters Apart from newspapers, (well worthy of a separate report), our Library's hoard of periodicals and newsletters is astonishing, in fact, overwhelming. The record of these holdings is guarded, supervised, and regularly reviewed by librarian Ted Benson. Your scribe is certain that few of our Library's clients have even a suspicion of the scope and the mass of this tremendous storehouse of knowledge and entertainment. I was recently privileged to see a reference resume of this treasure house. I was left amazed and highly impressed by what I read, though it was essentially just a bare-bones list. It goes without saying that this - as a labour of professional librarians - is neatly and accurately compiled, in alphabetical order - naturally, with coded designations indicating, for example, the location of each item, and which are held in "microform." The number of items, alone, is staggering - about 650 different! (Yes: I counted them). Nearly all are in English, but there are a few in French, and some are in "Large Print." The working list of these periodicals and newsletters is eclectic, but even a quick glance through it reveals a selective core specializing in materials related to Western Canada, and especially to BC. I noticed among many such items, "Artists' Magazine" (formerly "North Shore Arts News"), "Autism BC," "British Columbia Outdoors," "BC Business Magazine," "BC Bookworld," "British Columbia Genealogist," and so on. But many surprises lurked elsewhere in the list. Consider, for example, "Aviation Canada," "L'Actualite," "Alternative Medicine," "Archaeology," "Border Crossings," "Byte," "Canadian Bar Review, "Dalhousie Review," and "Film Comment," and so on almost "ad infinitum." Here indeed is a treasure of tremendous scope. It deserves to be very widely known and extensively used. Go to it, Friends! And happy Hunting! By Ted Hilll
