MEMBERSHIP We are pleased to welcome five new members: Sara Byrne Rosemin Ebrahim Gloria Richardson Janet Rough-Young Lorna-Jane Rush We also have some sad news too. One of our long-time members, Rouhy Sahihi passed away recently. She had been a member of the Friends since 1988. We also wish to extend our deepest condolences to June Harris who recently lost her husband, Stan. We will miss Stan who so willingly gave us a helpful hand in cleaning up after Remembrance Day and other events. ART RECEPTIONS Over 150 guests attended the reception on November 7th , "Kama Sutra Revisited" by Dr. Rakesh Shankar. His work is very popular and Dr. Shankar sold many pieces that evening. It was a busy event but all went smoothly and with elegance, thanks to Friends, Edda Davis, Nan Dickie, Maureen Eagle, Marie Evans, and Kim Vogt. The Friends punch is still the drink of choice! TREASURER'S REPORT Financial Statement to November 26, 2003: Bank Account $19,976 Expenses $ 10,378 Closing Balance $ 9,598 Gaming Account $ 797 Expenses $ 760 Closing Balance $ 37 We paid for two large items this month - $8,000 for the six chairs in the reference area and $1,368 for twenty utility tables to be used by for our book sales as well as by the Library. The $760 from the Gaming Account was spent on the table tops. By year's end, approximately $4,800 for display racks for biographies in the main hall and for additional CD drawers has still to be paid. These items have been ordered but have not as yet arrived. DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES REPORT As promised, Ann Goodhart spoke about the new Strategic Plan and gave us the following: Guiding Principles of the West Vancouver Memorial Library. THE LIBRARY WILL: * Provide excellent public library service. * Provide information and collections that meet the needs of Library patrons. * Ensure that the West Vancouver Memorial Library has suitable current technology. * Offer high quality programming to encourage library use, life long learning, literacy and reading. * Recognize that excellent staff are at the heart of the service provided by the West Vancouver Memorial Library. * Provide safe, comfortable, efficient and welcoming facilities for patrons and staff. THE BOARD WILL: * Provide leadership and direction in areas of policy and planning. MISSION STATEMENT Through its resources, programs and dedication to friendly efficient service, the Memorial Library strives to bring the world's information, ideas and culture to the entire community.
