ART RECEPTIONS 56 guests attended the reception on August 1st for the Photography Exhibition by Myshsael Schlyecher. The Friends of the Library who helped at the reception were: Lillian Chow, Grace Kravac and Kim Vogt. On Friday, September 5th the reception was held for the exhibition of Dale Warke and Samantha Sanderson. The Friends' of the Library team of Cathie Clinch, Noelene Harland and Kim Vogt served the 55 guests at this reception. The lovely floral arrangements were created by Grace Kravac. The October 3rd reception for the Ancient Culture/ Timeless Art featuring 16 Persian North Shore artists, was attended by some 310 people. Friends who were kept busy serving nibbles, Persian cookies, coffee and tea to the guests were: Lillian Chow, Barbara Drummond, Noelene Harland, Grace Kravac and Kim Vogt. West Vancouver's Mayor Ron Wood was on hand to speak to the assembled guests. AUTHOR VISITS On Friday, August 8th, Yann Martel read from his book "Life of Pi" in the Library Gallery. Many books were sold and autographed. This event was by ticket only and the Friends catered to a 'sold out' crowd of 120. Nan Dickie, Arden McLaughlin and Sophia Weremchuk served punch and cookies. According to Sophia, Yann wrote "Thank you for "quenching" my thirst" in her book. He enjoyed the punch too! Nearly 60 guests attended the September 30th visit of Steve Lunsford to the Library. He spoke about valuable, interesting and rare books and also appraised books guests had brought. It was nearly 10 p.m. when Helen Brewer and Edda Davis were finished their duties after serving at the event. On October 8th Dr. Sedigheh Nouri gave a lecture in Persian about the History of Persian Art. The Friends helping with this event were Edda Davis and Betty O'Sullivan. DONOR BOARDS The Library's new spectacular Donor Recognition Boards are in place. On Friday, October 17th there was a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the new donor boards and a thank you reception for all the Library's donors. The Friends served refreshments. FRIENDS FUNDING Check out the Reference level for the new study chairs we purchased for the Library. They are a much appreciated asset. The damaged tables in the study area have been repaired and are back in use. ANNUAL REPORT The Friends have received recognition for their contributions to the Library in the 2002 Annual Report. There is a note of appreciation to Sophia Weremchuk and a photograph of Maureen Eagle's welcoming smile. Look for a copy at the front desk.
