(Continued from page 3) Occasionally the missing page may be replaced by a copy, secured through a liaison with another library. Sometimes a broken "spine" may have to be reinforced, or perhaps an unpleasant comment written on a flyleaf may have to be removed or covered. In any case, if the damage can be remedied the treated books are eventually returned to circulation, ensuring a prolonged shelf life, and increased satisfaction for the favoured client. Incidentally, Barbara Mercer's one-lady repair service restores good looks and good "health" not only to books, but on occasion also to cassettes, C.D.'s or audiovisual materials. Ted Hill The Friends do not hold meetings in July and August and the next newsletter will be in October, so please make a note of the next meeting date. ART RECEPTIONS AUTHOR VISITS The reception for the Group Exhibition by Gillian Andrews, Gigi Hoeller, Amy Jones, Elizabeth Rolfe and Milan Stevulak was held on Friday, July 4th. Friends Memory Book To mark the Friends 50th Anniversary along with the Library's 50th Birthday we started collecting photos and memorabilia and now, thanks to Barbara Drummond, we have saved some of our history. We have about two years of material that needs to be added to the Memory Book and we are looking for a Friend who would take on the project. Interested? Please - call Grace @604-921-8333. AUTHOR VISITS Love Songs for a Tender God: Poems by Hiro Boga was the June 25th event. Those in attendance were inspired by Boga's poems as she flowed between ideas and feelings, nature and spirit. Friends, Edda Davis, Eileen de Bues and Sophia Weremchuk served Chai Tea and delicious Indian desserts that were provided by the author with a small donation for the cost of the refreshments from the Friends. A spiritual evening was enjoyed by all. The next meeting of The Friends will be on Wednesday September 24th 2003 12 noon to 2 p.m. Bring your lunch -tea & coffee provided in the Library's Peter J.
