FRIEND'S FUNDING At our May meeting the Friends unanimously approved the purchase of the six armchairs with attached writing surface for the Reference Department in the amount of $8,200. These are a part of the Library's Wish List. Unless we do extremely well at our "Book Sale" we will defer payment for these chairs until our term deposit comes due in November 2003. The two other "Wish List" items; a display rack for biographies in the Main Hall, $4,000 and additional CD drawers at $2,300, both will be considered in the fall. We approved $500 towards the cost of the T-Shirts for the Community Day Parade on Saturday June 7. With this years theme, Lights! Camera! Action! the T-Shirts required a design with more pizzazz and they were therefore more costly. Up to 20 teens walked in the parade. The Library Bookmobile was decorated to convey the message "Great Books make Great Movies". Please note that the page 3 illustration for Ted Hill's article about multiculturalism is the one used on the back of the teen T-Shirts at the parade. Our thanks to Gabriele Raasch, Graphic Designer at the Library and Lori Breen for the use of this graphic. SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2003 This year we approved $1133.30 towards the cost of program items, such as reading records, daily calendars, bookmarks, T-Shirts, prizes, and achievement medals. We also approved an additional $200 for the special awards reception on the evening of Friday, September 12. At this ceremony those members who complete 50 weeks of daily reading will receive this special Summer Reading Club medal. Every child who participates in the Club will have a certificate sent to their school. The Summer Reading Program runs from June 23 to August 30, the theme revolves around the arts, music, theatre, writing, painting etc. The Friends have traditionally provided some of the funding for the T-Shirts and incentive items.
