To my surprise, I found it included price lists for these fancy coupons ranging up to Two Hundred Dollars, for a coupon with a face value of fifty cents! For the world's first postage stamp, the fabled "Penny Black" of Britain, issued in 1840, an icon of philatelic value, one is tempted to say "Move over"! When you search the West Vancouver Memorial Library, "wonders never cease"! Ted Hill Kiwanis Club Donation In April, the "Friends" received another $1,000 donation from the Kiwanis Club of Capilano. They have requested that this money be used on audio books for the print impaired on the North Shore. The Kiwanis Club has generously been supporting this program since 1998 and with this latest donation they have contributed a total of $5,750. This donation is very much appreciated. ART RECEPTIONS The reception for the showing of Mary I. Johnson and Richard Summers was held on Friday, April 4th. There were over 200 guests and $4000 worth of art was sold so it was a very successful evening. The very efficient Friends helping with the reception were Amelia Aleksich, Maureen Eagle, Noelene Harland and Kim Vogt. They spent a LOT of time washing dishes! "Canada-Iran: Still Life <& Nature" by Homa Eftekhar (Ghaffar Zadeh) whose work can be found in some of Iran's most prestigious galleries, had a very successful opening on Friday May 2nd. It was a beautiful warm evening and with so many guests we served 5 bowls of punch, along with tea, coffee and the refreshments provided by the artist. The artist was so appreciative of the "Friends" that on Saturday those hosting received a beautiful thank-you card along with a box of special cookies. Friends hosting were Cathie Clinch, Edda Davis, Noelene Harland, Grace Kravac, Kim Vogt and Sophia Weremchuk.
