NEWSLETTER Issue 160 April 2003 West Vancouver Memorial Library MEMBERSHIP Maureen Eagle, Membership Secretary, reported that there were no new members this month. However, member renewals are coming in steadily. How long have you been a member of the Friends? Can you remember when you joined the Friends? Our records don't show when people joined and we would like to know how long our members have supported the Friends of the Library. If you know when you joined, could you please let Maureen know. Her phone number is: 604922-8507. Many thanks. We encourage all members of the Friends to attend our monthly meetings which are short, friendly and fairly informal. Copies of the minutes and a full Financial Statement and are available from the Library's Administration Office - See Lori during office hours. TREASURER'S REPORT From the desk of our treasurer Ian Loudon, here is the Financial Statement for the period of February 26 to March 27, 2003: Bank Account $3,717 Term Deposit $11,407 Cash $671 Total $15,795 Gaming Account $797 FRIENDS FUNDING You will notice that our bank balance is down $1,000 this month as we transferred the Kiwanis donation for taped books to the Library. We have submitted a request to the Gaming Commission to use the money in this account to refinish the tables in the study area. Funds in our gaming account were initially used to purchase these tables so we look forward to a positive response to our request. Book Cart Sales for the month were $654, with the year to date total: $1,883. From our balance of $15,795 the Friends have a number of committed expenditures: North Shore Writers Festival $2,000 Website $3,000 Remembrance Day Reception $1,000 Library Flowers $750 Summer Reading Program $850 Community Day Parade $300 Receptions & other events $1,500 Honorariums $400 Total approx: $9,800 We will need to take into account these committed expenses when looking at the Library's "wish list" for this year. We may need to approve these items during the year with priorities set by the Library staff. With the success of our Book Cart and the up coming book sale, I'm sure we will still have $10,000 for this year's " wish list"
