FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY NEWSLETTER On February 12th we held a meeting with those Friends interested in helping with the Newsletter and who were available to meet that day. We wanted to develop some guidelines and to have more input into producing our newsletter as well as involving more Friends. As a result of the meeting, Natalie Logan and Rosalie Elliott will be responsible in the future for the printing and mailing. Committee Chairs will submit articles on how their events went and which Friends participated. Ted Hill will continue with his article 'Treasures of our Memorial Library". Continuing in their posts will be Mary Holland as Editor and Maureen Eagle, responsible for circulation and proof reading. Contributing writers will still be Mary Holland and Sophia Weremchuk. Our goal is to have the newsletter in to the Library for review by the end of the first week of each month and ready for mailing by the 15th. We welcome input from any or all of the Friends on what they would like to see in the Newsletter. Articles or comments are most welcome. Call Mary at 604-990-1119 or e-mail at <mmholland@canada.com> Anyone who would like to assist in any part of the production of our Newsletter please contact Natalie @ 604-922-6281. LIBRARY BOARD REPORT TO THE AGM There wasn't room in last month's Newsletter to include the report of Karen Carlson who is the Library Board's representative to the Friends: 2002 was a year of "introspection and action". A committee of Board, staff, a Friends Representative and a Foundation Board member are revising the Library's Strategic Plan. A Communications Plan was also drafted with the help of Ann Goodhart. The Board also worked on the Official Community Plan and the Library's role in the community. Ongoing work continues on a new donor recognition board and policy. The West Vancouver Memorial Library was extremely fortunate to receive bequests from the Patrick and Welch estates. The Board will continue to explore options on how best to invest and/or utilize these monies for the benefit of the Library and community. The past Chair, Joan Creighton and John Moonen have left the Board and the two new members are Henry Greenwood and Sherry Parrott. The Board wishes to thank the Friends for all the effort and dedication demonstrated at various events throughout 2002 and for truly being the heart and soul of the West Vancouver Memorial Library.
