BOOK SALE October 25th and 26th Total Sales $2593 At Friday's Friends Preview sale we recorded 55 sales totaling $684. On Saturday we recorded approximately 340 sales for a total of $1909. There were about 76 people who arrived between 9 and 10 a.m. before the library was opened. Our "special" $2.00 brown bags were distributed from 3:30 p.m. until closing at 5:00 p.m. with 47 brown bags going out the door during that time. Total sales for Saturday were 418. In comparison, February's book sale total was $2455. Total income both sales February and October was $5048. REMEMBRANCE DAY We Shall Remember Them Monday, November 11th 2002 November 11th continues to play an important part in West Vancouver's community calendar as it has since our Library opened on Remembrance Day November 11th, 1950. We take time to remember and honour those from West Vancouver who sacrificed their lives for us during War II and for whom our Library is a memorial. The Friends sponsored and hosted the traditional reception immediately following the cenotaph service. Despite the rain about 700 guests were served coffee, tea and juice. The song sheets were a great success when the "Dundarave Players" once again provided a musical sing-along. (The practice of holding open house after the Remembrance Day Services at the Memorial Arch was established by Mrs. Stott in 1975, when everyone was invited to come for coffee and cake and join in the celebration of the Library's 25th birthday.) Our thanks to Eileen de Bues and Natalie Logan for the overall management of the reception; Brendan Rowell for looking after the rental of the coffee urns, coffee mugs, plates, sugar bowls etc.; Grace Kravac for the flowers; and Sophia Weremchuk for picking up the refreshments. A special thanks to James Walsh for all his work getting things ready on time.
