CHIEF LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Excerpts from Ann Goodhart's report: - The Computer Centre is now open for 2 hours both Monday and Tuesday evenings as well as Saturday morning. The public can now use word processing and spreadsheet software as well as the Internet in this area. The Internet classes continue to be very popular. - The Large Print collection is being weeded and some books have been sent to Midway Library which has almost no book budget. The seniors there are very happy and appreciative of this gift. These books don't sell well at the Book Sales. - July was the highest circulation ever for this Library with 91,697 items circulated. On August 6th, staff handled 10,700 items at the circulation desk! - The new Library cards are now available. - Staff Identification Badges are being produced and will possibly be ready for use by the last week in October. - The Library was one of the sponsors for the Chamber of Commerce "Business after Business" session on Sept. 26th. Library representatives demonstrated the Library's website and used the new library cards to register new patrons. BOOK BASKETS Have you noticed the two baskets brimming with teen and children's books beside our Book Cart? From the start in late August, it has become an instant success. We thank Irene (Youth Librarian) for the bright idea, and Gabrielle (Library Assistant) for the wonderful sign. Every book is priced at 25 cents. We specifically look for this type of book when sorting. We've been assured the department will keep us supplied with these books. The next meeting of The Friends will be on Wednesday October 23rd 2002 From 12-2 p.m. in the Library's Peter J. Peters Room Please bring your own lunch - coffee and tea will be available.
