(Continued from page 4) refreshments and staff for the reception which opens each show of art, and help with the hanging of the exhibits. Sales of works exhibited here reach substantial figures, to the satisfaction of artists and library. Prices are set by the artists them-selves. Each artist pays the library a "showing fee" of $25.00, plus 25% of the proceeds of each work sold. Over the past seven years, 132 individuals and 5 groups exhibited at the library, and 67 of them sold some of their works here (about 90% at the introductory receptions). The average "gross" from an artist's sales reached about $450.00 over these seven years, the "showing fees" brought the library $3,375.00, while the library's sales commissions brought us another $22,046.00. And the pleasure of the viewing patrons was priceless. Ted Hill FRIENDS' FUNDING At the April meeting the Friends unanimously approved the following purchases: a heavy duty vacuum for Maintenance $1,100; Hawaiian shirts for the Library float at the Community Day Parade; ink, toner and paper for the Friend's monthly Newsletter, $250 (in addition to postage). For review and approval at our May 22nd meeting is the Library's "wish list" for 2002: Web Page Updates ($3,000); Window Seat Rebuild A recovering ($1,900); Youth Services Shelving ($1,400); BBC Shakespeare DVD Collection ($5,200); Signs for CD Bins ($650); four Loveseats to be Rebuilt ($6,400); Puzzle Table ($900); Picture Book Display Racks ($1,100) - for a Total of $20,450 IN THE GALLERY Ann Hurst, Nicola Morgan and Edith Warner are three North Shore artists who have their work on display until May 30th. The artists reception on May 3rd was a delightful event hosted by Friends, Lillian Chow, Irene Esson and Noreen Avery. AUTHOR VISITS Pam Douglas from Adult Services Department is the coordinator for these very successful free events and we are delighted that the Friends are hosting Spider Robinson entertained and delighted those in attendance at his book launch on Tuesday April 23rd. Cookies, coffee and tea were provided by the Friends and hosted by Edda Davis and Sophia Weremchuk. Ralph Keefer will recreate his father's experiences as a prisoner of war in Ireland during World War on Thursday May 16th. His book "Grounded in Eire" will be on sale.
