UNSOLD BOOKS - FIND NEW HOMES Many thanks to our Secretary, Patricia Treadwell who after the book sale, immediately packed 13 boxes of books and personally delivered them to St. Mary's Hospital Pastoral Care, New Westminster; Kiwanis Care Centre, North Vancouver; Seniors Activity Centre, West Vancouver; Sanctuary Foundation (Cuba) New Westminster, and Magnolia House (Lions Gate Hospital) North Vancouver. Letters of appreciation have been received from the St. Mary's Hospital Pastoral j Jure and the Kiwanis Care Centre. They have expressed their "appreciation for our kindness and look forward to the possibility of receiving more books in the future". Thank-you Patricia. You are our "silent hero". Friends are requested to canvass other organizations who may also benefit from our unsold books. The next Friends book sale will be in July. IN THE GALLERY "Honouring the Flower" paintings by Ursula Allen and Helen Ott are on display in the Gallery from April 2nd to the 30th. The successful reception with both artists in attendance was held on the Friday evening, April 5th, graciously hosted by Friends Grace Kravac, Kim Vogt and Danielle Shepherd. OPERA PREVIEW - "Of Mice and Men" Sunday March 17th was an exhilarating afternoon for Opera enthusiasts. During the two hour event, James Wright, General Director at the Vancouver Opera Company, held everyone's interest as he played music and talked about the Opera Company and their presentation, "Of Mice and Men". Friends provided refreshments, coffee and tea. Hosting were Nan Dickie and Sophia Weremchuk. WINNING GARDENS If you were looking for new ideas for your own gardening pleasure or interested in entering the North Shore Gardens Society Contest, you would have thoroughly enjoyed Sheila Watkins' presentation on Tuesday April 2nd. Sheila is a Landscape Consultant from the North Shore and has been a Master Gardener with VanDusen Gardens since 1986. Sheila gave a most informative slideshow presentation of winning gardens, advice for entering the North Shore Gardens' Society Contest, and new gardening ideas. Guests in attendance were offered refreshments, tea and coffee. Friends hosting were Edda Davis, Nan Dickie and Sophia Weremchuk. Friends will host and provide refreshments at the next author visit on Tuesday April 23, 2002. The Author, Spider Robinson, is an incredibly prolific science fiction writer and Nebula and Hugo Awards winner. These Library events are free. Pre register by calling 604-925-7402.
