Issue 147 November 2001 NEWSLETTER ANNOUNCEMENT It is with great sadness that we inform Friends that our long time, active member Betsy Lee passed away peacefully on October 28, 2001. Betsy was an enthusiastic and hard working Friend until her health began to deteriorate three years ago. Betsy was part of the original group when "Artists' Receptions" started and worked on "Adopt a Book" campaign when the Library was raising funds for the extension. She was always at the Book Sales and until 1997 she was our Membership Secretary. In that office, Betsy initiated and introduced the new annual term of membership. She was loved by us for her friendship and incorrigible sense of humour. Betsy Lee, we celebrate your life and we thank you for being a "Friend". MEMBERSHIP We are pleased to welcome to the Friends the following new members who have recently joined us: Mahin Bakhsh Bo Klimes Annie Li Helia Mehdikhani Nadine Nicholls Danielle Shepherd Luis Zunino Welcome to the Friends and we look forward to meeting you, perhaps at one of the monthly meetings or helping out at an Artist's Reception, a book sale, or Library Social Function . All members of the Friends are encouraged to play an active role in our Society . The best way to find out more about the Friends is to attend our monthly meetings which are short, friendly and fairly informal held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Peter J. Peters Room. Our next meeting is November 28th, mark your calendar with that date and we look forward to welcoming all members. West Vancouver Memorial Library Membership renewal notices are enclosed for those of you whose membership will expire at the end of 2001 as well as for memberships that are overdue. Please remember that Friends memberships make good 'stocking stuffer' gifts! KIWANIS DONATION The Kiwanis Club of Capilano has again generously donated the sum of $750.00 to the "Friends of the Library" to be spent on audio books for the hearing and sight impaired on the North Shore. On behalf of the North Shore audio book patrons, we send our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Kiwanis Club of Capilano who have been generously supporting this program since 1998. A special thank-you to their representative Dudley Taylor who has always ensured the cheque was delivered.
