THIS IS A COPY OF THE FIRST MINUTES OF THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY Treasures of our Memorial Library Friends of the West Vancouver Memorial Library Organization meeting November 14, 1951 Some thirty residents of West Vancouver met in the West Vancouver Memorial Library on November 14, 1951 at 8 P.M, for the purpose of organizing a Friends of the West Vancouver Memorial Library association. Most of those present represented P.T.A., and Service Clubs of the community. In the absence of the Librarian, Mrs. Musto, Mr. Inkster took the chair. He outlined the purposes of the organization, which are, briefly, to augment the existing services of the library as for example by acquiring additional books thought gifts, by supporting future expansion programs, by sponsoring extra services to children through Story Hours, puppet shows, etc. A slate of officers was nominated and elected; President Colonel G W Smart Treasurer Mrs. C J A Dalton Secretary Mrs. H E Harvey Three committees were organized under respective volunteer conveners; 1. The Garden Committee under Mrs. Sinclair MacKay will accept gifts befitting a memorial garden and will work in cooperation with Mr. J F Wood, Park Chief, on landscaping plans. 2. Pick up committee under Mrs.Glyn Rees Thomas will pick up donations of books and magazines. She is assisted by Mrs. A Watts covering Sentinel Hill area and Mrs. George Finly covering the Caufield area. 3. Shut in Committee under Mrs. Victor Griffiths is assisted by Mr. G H Cherry, Mrs. A Graigie, Mr. H E Harvey and Mr. J Inkster. This committee will serve those who want books but are unable to use the library personally. The Constitution, programs etc. were left to the decision of the executive and the the ex-officio member, Mrs. Musto. The meeting was adjourned. President Secretary (Virginia C. Harvey)
