MEMBERSHIP Membership remains at 177 with no new members joining in April. Any encouragement that Friends can give to others who may wish to join our group is appreciated. We welcome new members from all age groups. We have a new look! Our brochure/application form has been revised and updated this month. The major changes were in the design and colour and to our "Activities" section. Our design is bolder and more modern looking and will be reproduced on a brighter blue paper. The "Activities" section now reads: conduct high profile book sales and materials; host and sponsor the Remembrance Day reception. Our thanks to Library Staff Gabriele and Lillian for their suggestions and recommendations in effecting these changes. Note: The next meeting of the Friends, Wednesday, May 23rd, will be held in the Story House on the 3rd Floor of the Library at 7:00 p.m. THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION The Memorial Library Foundation raises money for the Library through the Annual Campaign and events such as the Croquet Tournament and Author's Night. The Foundation is currently planning their 5th Annual Ambleside Greens Croquet Tournament to be held on June 1st. Last year they raised funds for the self-checkout machine, the new website and extra copies of best sellers. This year the Foundation is again raising funds for best sellers and for the Library's seismic shelving project. BOOKMOBILE If you know someone who is homebound there is no reason for them to be without books. The Library Home Service through Adult Services will be happy to arrange this service for them. For more information please call 925-7402. CONGRATULATIONS to Marie Evans, on receiving her Five Year Service Award at the Library's Annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception, April 16th, 2001 held in the Library's Peter J. Peters Room. Marie received her award for her commitment and dedication as a Library Volunteer. Marie is also a long time member of the Friends and our former Secretary. From all the Friends, congratulations. We too appreciate your dedication and support. THANK YOU to Marion Nodwell for continuing to beautify our Library with baskets and bouquets of fresh flowers. You never cease to amaze us with the creativity and elegance of the arrangements. Marion, from the Friends, staff and library patrons, please accept our sincere thanks and appreciation.
