Saturday, June 9th 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Location: The Library's Peter J. Peters Room. We are planning the next book sale for October. BOOK SALE NEWS Since 1995, the Library's basement has been available to the Friends for the sorting and storage of the books as well as the actual book sales. Unfortunately for us, over the past year the basement area underwent a face lift and is now the new home of the Library's Technical Services Department. As a result, the space available to the Friends has drastically changed. We have gone from having the large area to a space that is approximately 15* by 14' in size. Here we must sort, box and store the thousands of books. This is the reason for more frequent and smaller book sales. With such a small work area, the days of having the sorting "blitz" in the month preceding the sale are no longer possible. The discards are now being sorted on a regular basis by Wanda Osborne, Barbara Drummond, Brendan Rowell, Karen Cowper, Noreen Avery and Ted Hill. There isn't room for them all to work at the same time! This small group of workers also ensure the book cart is stocked with a good selection. Presently we can't see how we can use more help in the sorting and storing of the discards and we know that many of the Friends who looked forward to this annual event feel greatly disappointed. Due to the increase in the number of book sales to three or possibly four in the upcoming year, we will be needing more help and support at the time of the actual sales. With our next sale in early June, you will again be hearing from the telephone committee. Our book sales have played a major role in our fund raising since 1982. Although now smaller in scale, our book sales will continue to play a large part in the Friends' role and contributions to the Library. Thank you for your understanding of the present situation.
