ART GALLERY The opening night artists' reception for Sunny Stringer and Rosemary Bonner was very well attended. The reception itself was held in the Peter J. Peters Room where tea was definitely the preferred drink of the evening. Fortunately Natalie Logan stood up to the challenge of serving more than five pots of tea and 25 or so cups of coffee. Thanks to Anne Graves and Sophia Weremchuk for carrying out the dishwashing duties. Their show continues until March 23rd. Sunny Stringer works in watercolours and enjoys painting people and scenes from other cultures with which she has come into contact during her travels. Rosemary Bonner, who works in oils, watercolour and pastels finds her reward in giving pleasure to others with her art. The upcoming Gallery Exhibit will be from March 26th to April 14th and features a mixed media display of thirty-nine juried Artists from the West Vancouver Sketch Club. This club was formed in 1947 as the "Painting for Fun Club" and their objectives were: " To promote greater interest in, and appreciation of fine art, and to encourage local talent." All these years later, they are still Painting for Fun and producing fine art for the enrichment of our community. The opening night reception, with artists in attendance will be on Monday, March 26th at 7:30 p.m. in the Peter J. Peters Room. All paintings are for sale. BOOK CART SALES Barbara Drummond reports that the book cart continues to be a success. Recently there has been more of a mix of books including travel, gardening, cooking, nonfiction and red dot books on the cart. From the 1st of January to the 28th of February we deposited $651.36. FRIENDS FUNDING Chairs and cushions were bought for Youth Services at a cost of approx. $3000. A letter from Julia Hedley, Head of Youth Services, says it best: "If you have not seen the new chairs, I hope you will come and admire them and try them out. People are thrilled to have a comfortable place to sit and read with their children. Thank you so much for all of your contributions to this special place in the library. I am sure we are fostering many positive experiences that help develop active readers, learners and strong library supporters." The next meeting of The Friends will be on Wednesday March 28th 2001 at 7 p.m. in the Library's Peter J.
