ART GALLERY Bridget McDowall reports that 2001 has started with a new Visual Arts Committee: Darab Shabahang, Chairman; Sedigheh Nouri, Vice Chair; Janette Chun, Publicist. We thank Bridget and her committee of Diana Mackenzie and Peggy Smith for their hard work and wish the new committee well in the year ahead. Bridget is leaving to join her husband in Morocco. Twenty seven North Shore Artists have been chosen to exhibit their work this year. The last exhibition from 22nd January to 11th February was by E.M. Brossard. She lives and works at her studio on Marine Drive in Dundarave. The new exhibition is entitled "The Colored Phantom" and is watercolours done by Mahamoud Kirimi. It will be on display in the Gallery February 12th to March 14th. Mahamoud has been painting and drawing since childhood and has worked with professional artists and teachers in Iran. Opening night Reception, with the artist in attendance, was February 12th. A sincere thanks to Gisele Black who continues to coordinate and host the artists receptions with help from Wanda Osborne, Irene Esson and Jo Milne. VOYAGE BELOW with James P. Delgado, FRGS Almost 500 people attended this exciting and interesting lecture. They had an opportunity to experience the underwater explorations to RMS Titanic and RMS Carpathia while Jim Delgado told the stories of his expeditions to both ships and showed the photos he had taken of them. This lecture was presented jointly by the West Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation and the Maritime Museum and sponsored by the North Shore News and the North Shore Credit Union Foundation. It was presented as one of the West Vancouver Memorial Library's "Author Series" at the West Vancouver United Church on January 24th. Following the lecture there was a very well attended reception. The Foundation and Mr. Delgado personally thanked the Friends of the Library for hosting the reception. The new hours started Monday, February 5th and are: Monday to Thursday: 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Closed Sundays, July 1st through Labour Day) The next meeting of The Friends will be on Wednesday February 28th 2001 at 7 p.m. in the Library's Peter J.
