ART GALLERY The current art display is "Repetition in Reflection: Earth &. Water" by Moira Thompson and Meg Torwl. It will be on display from October 2 - 29th, 2000. Both artists were in attendance for the "opening night" reception Monday, October 2nd, hosted by Friends Betty O'Sullivan and Sophia Weremchuk. Bridget McDowall, coordinator of the Art Gallery exhibits continues to work effortlessly to ensure all pieces of artwork are displayed to show to their best advantage. It was a successful and delightful evening, a well attended evening and a big success with many sales. Moira Thompson is a North Vancouver ceramic artist who has exhibited at the Gallery previously to great acclaim. This show combines practical as well as decorative ware. She loves tile and was able to use up all her old clay for this show. The tiles are quite different with ditzy dogs, "peep mirrors", kittens, mermaids and Joan of Arc among others. Hurry if you want to buy any of the tiles as they are selling quickly! Meg Torwl is a multimedia artist who works in photography, video, drama, dance, performance poetry and writing. Her work has been exhibited, published and performed in Canada, the USA, the UK, and New Zealand, where she was raised. This current exhibition was inspired by the peace of natural environments and images were selected with the work of co-exhibitor Moira Thompson in mind. She is "intensely interested in light, to which water acts as both a mirror and prism". Lovely Floral Arrangements An artist in her own right, Marion Nodwell continues to provide weekly floral arrangements for our Library. Each arrangement is unique and different. Thanks again Marion from the Friends, patrons and staff. The Friends of the Library are invited to the party and as Dr. Azarm has been a long time member of the Friends, it would be nice to see us turn out in numbers to show him our appreciation of his support. Our help is needed to serve at the reception. Contact Lillian if you are available. The next meeting of The Friends will be on Wednesday October 25, 2000 At 7 p.m. in the Library's Peter J.
