TREASURER'S REPORT Our treasurer, Ron Lucas, circulated the treasurer's report for the period June 21 (as revised September 19) to September 27. As of 2000 Sept. 27: Total Regular Funds: 21,482.76 Total Gaming Funds: 9,847.55 Total Friends Funds: 31,330.31 Notes: Ron provided an update on the Continuous Book Sale deposits from the resumption of book cart sales, July 10th . He mentioned that we are not counting all the surplus loose change every time a deposit is made. But, a count was made at the time of the last deposit, and our proceeds to Sept. 20 are as follows: Deposited $452.00 Float on Hand 32.00 Coin on hand 79.31 Total proceeds $563.31 (Not shown on Treasurer's Report) A full Financial Report is available from the Library's Administration Office - see Lillian. CHIEF LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Ann Goodhart announced that the group study room was near completion and furniture has been ordered. Monies for the furniture will come out of the Friends Gaming Budget. We could expect a ribbon cutting for the end of October. It is now official, tender documents will be going out next week and construction of the basement space will be completed by mid- January 2001 which means the Friends will not have the basement in which to hold the annual book sale. On the positive side, Ann has allocated a small corner in the basement where the Friends are still able to sort the discards but with the limited space we need to consider mini Book Sales during the year. Ann suggested a sidewalk sale on Community Day, (the first week in June), and the mini book sale as part of the 50th Birthday Celebration on November 18. Ann also displayed items for sale to commemorate the 50th Birthday. Book Bags @ $16.00 (includes taxes) and Fridge magnets @3.00 (includes taxes). All proceeds to help cover the expenses of the 50th Birthday Celebration. These can be purchased at the check-out counter. BOARD LIAISON We enjoyed having Juanita Tupper at our meeting to share some of the issues being addressed by the Board. Juanita's report included: - Brainstorming session with the board and senior staff. - Library Web Site which includes the Friends of the Library, the Foundation, Magazines, Reference Service, Book Catalogue and access to Vancouver Public Library and UBC Library Catalogues. As Juanita put it, Interlink with other Libraries in Greater Vancouver are changing the role of local libraries. Juanita referred to our new computer system as a "Class Act" A short demo will be shown at the Council meeting on Tuesday, October 10th. There are also a number of Budget items being addressed with the Council. The Board has requested an increase to the budget in an effort to restore or partially restore some of the items that were drastically cut; such as Sunday and Monday a.m. closings. It was interesting to know that our revenues from fines have dropped, the assumption is that renewals are now available on computer and by telephone.
