CONGRATULATIONS MARIE MOSCOVITCH On receiving the Citizen of the Year Award. West Vancouver's Chamber of Commerce held its annual general meeting and president's dinner last Thursday, June 1st at the Capilano Golf and Country Club. Businesses of the Year and Citizen of the Year awards were presented. We are very proud of our long time member, Marie, receiving the Citizen of the Year Award. She is a very worthy recipient. Over the years, Marie has unselfishly donated her time and has contributed to the special needs of the Friends in making our Library a more welcoming place. Again, on behalf of your Friends of the Library, our congratulations and very best wishes. TEEN SUMMER READING CLUB From June 26th to August 26th teens in grades 8-12 can collect gold stickers and free "stuff' such as Subway sandwiches, McDonald's fries, Dairy Queen ice cream, CD's, sunglasses, novels and much more. All this for reading a book. To get a gold sticker they will Read a book Tell about the book Write a review - or Send an E-mail. ART GALLERY Gisele Black reported that at the opening reception on May 23rd, for the Gordon McHarg showing, that coffee was not as popular as the punch. The next exhibit is: June 19 - July 8 Paintings in all mediums By Elizabeth Martin Elizabeth Martin is a retired physician who has devoted herself to her painting for the past three years. She has attended workshops here and in Europe. The Artist will be in attendance at the opening reception on June 19th from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. VOLUNTEER SEMINAR Take advantage of this opportunity! The session should be interesting and informative. 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS The Anniversary planning committee is well on its way to solidifying the week long celebrations. A Birthday Event & Open House is planned for Saturday, November 18th. Initial plans for the day include a cake cutting ceremony, music, invitations to the Mayor, and former staff members. We now have anniversary seals and the slogan "Check Us Out @ 50!" Our celebration will reflect the role and services of the library, today not just looking back.
