BOARD LIAISON It was great to have Jim Turpin, Library Board Chair, at our May meeting. Jim reported: ♦ West Vancouver Council has approved the Library budget for 2000-2001. ♦ Design of the Library's web page has been awarded to The Communications Group. ♦ The request for reinstating Monday morning Library hours was not passed. ♦ The parking issue is still to be discussed with Council. As our next meeting, Wednesday June 21st is the same date the Library Board meets in the Peter's Room, we will not have a Board Liaison at our meeting. THANK YOU Thank you Lindsey Lorence, for walking in the Community Day Parade. We had hoped for more representation from the Friends and from the Library Volunteers but appreciate this walk is not for everyone. Although we didn't meet the 50 target, those who participated looked fantastic wearing the specially made 50th Anniversary T-Shirts. The shirts had the 50th Anniversary logo on the front and West Vancouver Memorial Library on the back. The Friends provided the 14 logo t-shirts for Community Day at a cost of just over $150.00 with taxes. TREASURER'S REPORT Thank you Ron for preparing the Treasurer's Report for the period April 25th to May 24th, 2000, and thank you, Ian Loudon for so capably reviewing the report on behalf of Ron. Total Regular Funds: $17,136.58 Total Gaming Funds: $32,952.54 Total Funds: $50,089.12 1. The regular funds are clear of all outstanding commitments except for the $1,000 donated for Talking Books by the Kiwanis Club of Capilano. 2. Gaming funds are likewise clear of commitments except for the $27,339 reserved for the Group Study Area project. Special Note: We have good news--Emily Courtright, our taped book Coordinator has placed the order for the audio books for the hearing impaired. Once the order is received. Emily will provide us with the details on how the entire amount was spent. The full Financial report is available from the Library's Administration Office during business hours. Don't forget the Book Sale! FRIENDS FUNDING At the May meeting, the Friends approved funding for a "display system", (Advantage Display) in the amount of $1762.44, including taxes and delivery. The Library staff is eagerly planning many uses for it. The Youth Service and Adult Services plan to use the system for class visits and for talks to the Community. Because it is light and portable, they will be able to take it with them when they go out into the Community to display brochures, pamphlets, forms, photographs and reading lists. They are also looking forward to being able to better display art work and essay contest entries that have been typically taped to the windows. The Reference Department is planning to use the system for improved display of the historic photo collection and for our 50th Anniversary celebration. As the system will be an integral part of the Library, the Friends may use it to display photos of our own achievements. CONTINUOUS BOOK SALE Sales continue to do well, and as of May 24th, total proceeds are $2,794.30. This includes cash on hand for the float. During the week of the book sale, no books will be sold from the book cart. Books were cleared on Monday to be sorted for the big sale. The date for reopening of the continuous book sale will be determined at our next meeting -September has been suggested.
