NEWSLETTER Issue 136 June 2000 West Vancouver Memorial Library MEMBERSHIP With our Membership Chair, Maureen Eagle, we welcome three new members who joined during the past month: Mhorea Fitzgerald David Baldwin Sarah Baldwin We are delighted and send a special warm welcome to David and Sarah, our two youngest and newest members. David is 6 years old and Sarah is 8 1/2 years old. We hope they will enjoy being a part of the Friends of the Library. It is very encouraging to see that so many of our members are attending our monthly meetings and it is wonderful to have their valuable input into the working of our Society. Members are encouraged to attend our next monthly meeting to be held on the third Wednesday, June 21st, at 7:00 p.m. We will again meet in the Story House on the 3rd floor of the Library. As we do not have meetings during July and August, our next meeting will be Wednesday, September 27th, at 7:00 p.m. A reminder that meeting minutes are not circulated but are summarized in our newsletter. BOOK SALE The Book Sale Preview evening on Friday, June 16th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. is strictly by current membership card so please remember to bring your card with you. If you are a new member or have renewed recently, your card can be picked up at the door. June 16 - Friday Preview 6 to 8 p.m. June 17 - Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18 - Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The book sale is fast approaching, book sorting is all but completed, press releases have been sent out -look for a picture in the North Shore News either Wednesday or Friday. We're out in the community with posters having been distributed to local businesses in Ambleside, Park Royal, Horseshoe Bay, Edgemont Village, Caulfield, and the Blue Buses. Distribution took place prior to the Community Day Celebrations, June 3rd. Posters went on display in the Library mid May and the book marks went into circulation on June 5th. Our banner on the Marine Drive Pedestrian overpass at Park Royal went on display Friday, June 9th. We are using last year's poster design, the stack of books. Thanks to Mary Holland, we believe the stack of books represents our message to the public. Our thanks to Extra Foods at Park Royal South for 500 large brown bags for the Sunday Sale. We still need plastic bags. Our thanks also to everyone for the hard work and many dedicated hours given so far, but we still need more volunteers for the actual sale. We hope you will say "Yes" to Natalie Logan when she calls. Or, please call Natalie at 922-6281. We need markers, cashiers, elevator operators as well as help providing directions and tidying up the shelves once the sale commences Note: Friends are reminded to settle up with Ron Lucas as soon as possible for money owing on books taken prior to the sale. Ron has expressed concern that this is a time consuming process so please pay up as quickly as possible. Ron can be reached at 922-7928. Thank you for understanding.
