(Continued from page 3) gorgeous volumes of a deluxe edition of Pierre Berton's histories of the War of 1812. What about the sizes of individual volumes? Well, there are plenty of folio editions, but near them nestles an intriguing volume, which measures only one inch by two inches. A long list of book titles would prove tiresome, but I feel compelled to quote a few more, to give a clear picture of the depth and breadth of this marvelous collection. Here are a few more which sparked my interest, and may, I hope, tickle yours: "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", with superb paintings and ink sketches by Arthur Rackham. This is undated, but looks like a first edition. That thought almost set my hands a-trembling. "Letter of General Gordon to His Sister", 1888. "Views of the Halifax Catastrophe", 1917. "Kitchener's Mob". 'The Indians of Canada", (Diamond Jennes). "Gun-fire", An Historical Narrative of the 4th Brigade, C.F.A., 1914-18. "Ayesha", by H. Rider Haggard. "Birds That Hunt & Are Hunted", 1905. "The World's 72 Toughest Golf Holes". "Man and His Ancestors in the Light of Organic Evolution", (Chas. Hill-Tout, 1925) "Candide" and so on and so on! Ted Hill ART GALLERY The Friends greatly appreciate Elsa O'Connor for her continued commitment in hosting the artists receptions on opening night. Our thanks to Joanna Scott for providing a helping hand at last month's very busy reception of "Persian Dreams" paintings by Reza Doust. "A Spring Show" is this month's art exhibition featuring the oil paintings of artist Peggy Smith. Ms. Smith has been painting for over 30 years and has been represented by the Rendezvous Gallery on Howe Street, Vancouver; and locally by Wall Street Gallery in Dundarave. Peggy has had one-man shows and her mainly impressionistic paintings have been purchased by collectors as far away as Taiwan, Europe, the UK, Eastern Canada and the USA. She is a long-time member of the West Vancouver Sketch Club and exhibits in their juried shows as well as participating each year in the Harmony Arts Festival. Peggy Smith can often be seen painting on location on the North Shore. She paints for the sheer joy of it. Framing for her show has been done by Wall Street Gallery, Dundarave. All paintings are for sale and will be on display until the 7th of May. The Artists Reception for Peggy was a big success with many sales. Thank you, Melba Weber, for your help.
