NEWSLETTER Issue 134 April 2000 West Vancouver Memorial Library MEMBERSHIP We welcome four new members who have joined us since March. Karen Cowper Ian Loudon Joan McLeod Sandra Wright Members are encouraged to attend our monthly meetings which are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Peters Room. BOARD LIAISON We were honoured to have Jim Turpin, the Board Chair attend our March meeting. Jim reported on the budget situation . He said the annual campaign of the Library Foundation is currently underway with the first letter going out to people who have contributed in the past. In May a large mailing will go out to all homes in West Vancouver. In 1999, over $55,000 was raised in the annual campaign. This year their goal is $100,000. TREASURER'S REPORT Ron Lucas circulated the treasurer's report for the period February 23rd to March 22nd. As of March 22nd: Total Regular Funds: $16,677.17 Total Gaming Funds: $32,952.54 Total Funds: $49,629.71 Note: Regular funds are clear of all outstanding commitments except for the $1,000 donated for Talking Books by the Kiwanis Club of Capilano. Gaming funds are likewise clear of commitments except for the $27,339 reserved for the Group Study Area project. Continuous book sale proceeds to March 18th are $1,809.92 The full Financial report is available from the Library's Administration Office during business hours. CHIEF LIBRARIAN'S REPORT It was music to our ears and it brought a smile to our Treasurer, when Ann Goodhart announced that the architect's plans for the Group Study Room would be out to tender once the Finance Department provides the budget number. The good news is that the project can be completed within 10 days of the commencement of work. Ann also reported that Technical Services may be moving into the basement space and this may affect our Book Sale space in 2001. COMPUTERIZATION The new computer system is continuing to work well, with few glitches. The Library web site is currently being updated and should be completed soon.
