MEMBERSHIP Maureen Eagle reported that as of December 31, 1999, our membership stood at 174, including 4 Honorary members: Dorothy Jones Kay Meek Jack Mounce Mary Pearson We sadly lost one of our Honorary members when Tony Scammell died earlier this year. As Maureen reported at the AGM, the actual number of members changes throughout the year due to some people not renewing their memberships and others joining. There were 38 new members in 1999. We appreciate the membership and support of our silent members and hope they receive enjoyment from the monthly Newsletter. Once again, the Friends, along with Maureen, say a big "thank you" to Betty O'Sullivan for all the telephoning she does to old and new members when we need extra help, particularly at major events such as the Book Sale and Remembrance Day Reception. TREASURER'S REPORT The 1999 Financial Report was presented and distributed by treasurer Ron Lucas and the full report is available from the Library's Administration Office. 1. The Continuous Book Sale Income to Dec 31 1999 is $1086.60 2. For the second year we have received a donation of $1000 from The Kiwanis Club of Capilano. This is intended for the Library to purchase Talking Books. However, because of time constraints relating to the installation of the new computer system, this purchase has had to be carried forward into the New Year as a reserved item. 3. Gaming Funds. The Group Study Area project, for which funding was applied for last March and received in August, has also had to be delayed due to the new computer installation. In summary: Gaming Account funds on hand: $32,952.54 Reserved for Group Study Area project: 27,339.00 Uncommitted balance: $ 5,613.54 Expenditures from the balance would require a project request from the Library, and probably a review and approval from the Gaming Commission. Balance Sheet 31 Dec 1999 ASSETS Regular Fund TOTAL: 15,811.55 Gaming Fund TOTAL: 32,952.54 TOTAL FRIENDS ASSETS: 48,764.09 LIABILITIES NIL BOARD LIAISON At our Annual General Meeting we had the pleasure of meeting the new Chairman of the West Vancouver Library Board, Jim Turpin as well as Juanita Tupper who is the Vice Chair of the Library Board. They were introduced by Jack McConville. We wish them success in their new roles and we look forward to working with them. The Friends also want to thank Jack McConville who has always given us support and recognition. Thanks, Jack, we look forward to continuing the relationship we have enjoyed throughout the years. It is nice to hear that the Friends are appreciated by the Board, and as he puts it--we provide the "strong link between Library and Public".
