NEWSLETTER Issue 130 November 19 A Tribute to Joanna Knight It came as a great shock to those who knew Joanna, to learn of her sudden death, at home, on the 26th of October. Joanna was born and raised in Kent, England and after completing her schooling worked in London as a private secretary for the Council of the London Stock Exchange and later as a Professional Conference Organizer. After moving to Canada, she worked in Toronto as a Seminars Manager, Fund Raiser, Public Event Consultant and Public Relations Coordinator for the Toronto Symphony, the Blue Jays Baseball Club and the Royal Ontario Museum, to name a few of her clients. Joanna then lived for a time in Hong Kong before she moved to the Vancouver area in the fall of 1994. She bought her home in West Vancouver, and took great pleasure in the improvements and renovations she made to the house Her home was filled with many treasures and was a great joy to her. Joanna cared deeply about her home, the beautiful treasures she had collected, her music, her garden, and above all her two dogs -- Josie and Charlie. She loved working and planning changes in her garden, always "helped' by the dogs! Joanna has been a member of the Friends of the Library since June 1996. She served as Vice President during 1997 and has been President since 1998. She was a part of the Casino project, and was the Coordinator of the successful Book Sale this year. Her professional organizational skills were very useful to her work with the Friends of the Library and will be a great help to those who follow in her footsteps. Those Friends who worked with her knew her to be both sympathetic and compassionate of others, and she was always quick to express her appreciation. Joanna was very aware of the 50 year history of service to the Library by The Friends. She felt that the current members are carrying on the work and tradition of those pioneers who made the library possible and then continued to raise funds for the 'extras' the library required. A memorial service was held at the Hollyburn Funeral Home on the 12th of November and was attended by her many friends from the Library. A reception followed at the Park Royal Hotel. Joanna is survived by her husband, John who lives in Hong Kong; her father, Edward, and her brothers Stephen and Michael with their families in England.
