CONTINUOUS BOOK SALE The mobile book carts for the continuous sale have already been delivered, and the signage is expected shortly. The working group will be meeting on July 14 to finalize the day to day running of the sale. The circulation area at the main entrance of the library is to be remodeled during August. If the work is completed as scheduled, then the continuous sale will start as planned immediately after Labour Day on September 7. MEMORIAL TO TONY SCAMMELL The book purchased by the Library in memory of Tony -"The Literary Guide and Companion to Middle England" has been catalogued - 914.24 -and can be found on the regular shelf in the West Wing. We have not heard anything further from the B.C. Gaming Commission in regard to our Application for Direct Charitable Access to Gaming Revenue. The Use of Proceeds, in the event of a successful grant, is the proposed new group study area on the main floor to be designated as a memorial to Tony. ART GALLERY The artists' reception, held on the opening evening of the "Summer Show" presented by the West Vancouver Sketch Club, was well attended by forty artists and their friends and relations. As Elsa O'Connor tells us "Lots of food, lots of noise.... like old times. " On this occasion, Elsa was ably supported by Wanda Osborne and Amelia Alexsich. In August, our Gallery will, for the first time, play an active role in West Vancouver's Harmony Arts Festival. From Friday, August 6 through Saturday, August 14, there will be events and an exhibit in the Peters Meeting Room. The Artist in Attendance will be Vern Montgomery, the well known cartoon illustrator. Not only will there be an exhibit of his work in the Room, but he will also be available most days, cartoonist's pen in hand! Readings will be given on August 6, 7, 11 and 14 by renowned writers, authors, academics, playwrights and broadcasters. A programme will soon be posted on the bulletin board giving full details. However, the reading by playwright Patricia Mason, who has had three different plays about Emily Carr performed and has published "Indian Tales of the Northwest: the Return of the Osprey" might be one to mark on your calendar now. This takes place on Saturday August 13 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, from August 3 to 28, there will be three excellent photographic exhibits in the main Gallery -"Images of the Pacific Coast" by David Smith; "A Shooter's Perspective" by Mary Ann Muscat; and "Expressions of Nature" by Robert Plummer. The next meeting of The Friends will be on Wednesday September 22, 1999 at 7 p.m. in the Library's Peters Meeting Room **************** Please note this date on your calendar now as there will be no further notice. **************** Editor - Mary Holland Printing & Circulation -Maureen Eagle Contributing Writers -Joanna Knight Ted Hill
