NEWSLETTER Issue 127 June 1999 MEMBERSHIP Welcome to two new members who have joined the Friends in the past month: Michael Dyck Alex MacMillan Members are reminded that entry to the Book Sale Preview evening on Friday, June 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. is strictly by current membership card, so please remember to bring your card with you for this event. To be eligible to attend the Preview, new applications for Membership, together with payment, must be handed in at the Library's Registration Desk by noon on Thursday, June 17 to allow sufficient time for processing. Members of the Friends are entitled to 10 free reserves per year. This is just a reminder that our current membership card must be shown and stamped when picking up a reserve. Our next meeting, to be held on June 23, will be the last before our two month Summer recess. BOOK SALE June 18 - Preview 6-8 p.m. June 19 - 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 20 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. As at the date of our May meeting, book sorting was fairly much up to date with only some refinement required. However, we are expecting more donations once our publicity campaign gains momentum. Our first press release was sent out on May 25, and the second faxed on June 7. The posters were distributed to local businesses and shops and to the Blue Buses by June 4 in the hope that they would be on display in time for Community Day. Posters and book marks went on display in the Library on May 28. Our banner will be on display on the Marine Drive pedestrian overpass at Park Royal from June 11. This year's poster was designed and produced by Mary Holland and was chosen from four optional designs presented by her to our May 26 meeting. All Friends who have previously indicated that they are interested in being involved with the Sale were contacted before the end of May by our Volunteer Coordinator, Betty O'Sullivan. Confirmation of times and nature of duties will be sent out well before the event. As stated before, the Friday evening Preview is open to Members of the Friends only. To summarize entitlement to attend to attend the preview: - Open to Members only - no couples unless both are Members of the Friends; - Entry strictly by current membership card - no memberships will be sold at the door; - No children, other than paid up Youth Members.
