Bookmobile Service Our Bookmobile service celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. A celebration party is being arranged for Monday, April 26, from 2-4 p.m. Those being invited include patrons of the Bookmobile and our home delivery service, Members of our Library and Honorary Advisory Boards, the Foundation, colleagues from the Municipality and, of course, the Friends of the Library. There will be banners and streamers commemorating 30 years of service as the Bookmobile goes about its rounds in the next couple of weeks. At the party itself there will be a cake with candles, streamers, balloons and music will be provided by Ken Gibson & Friends. It was to raise funds for the purchase of a new vehicle that we held the first casino night in January 1992. The Bookmobile currently delivers books to all the Senior Care Facilities in West Vancouver, as well as making extended stops throughout the community. It services West Vancouver four days a week, Tuesday through Friday. The schedule can be seen on the side of the Bookmobile or phone the Library for more information. Art Gallery The current exhibition - The Miracle of Flowers - works by David Payne - continues to give enjoyment. David's interest in floral compositions reflects his feeling that flowers are an integral part of our lives. "They play a vital part in our expressions of joy, sorrow and love and when cultivated commercially, they are the focal point of holidays like 'Valentine s Day and Mother's Day. They also grow wild and free in profusion and can transport the most inhospitable environment into a thing of beauty. " Last month's "Meet the Artist" event with Anne Zaleski was very successful. There will be an opportunity to talk to David Payne about his art this month. Meet the Artist - David Payne April 20, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. Thank You Thinking of flowers at this time, the Friends would like to express their enormous gratitude on behalf of the whole library and community, to Mary Pearson who, for so many years has provided floral arrangements from her own delightful garden on 28th Street. Unfortunately, Mary has had to give up this beautiful retreat. Her floral contributions to our Library are very much missed. Thank you, Mary. Computerisation At our March meeting, Ann Goodhart kindly brought us up to date on the proposed new computerisation of all library systems. Two finalists will be selected from the companies invited to submit proposals. The proposals which Ann demonstrated to our meeting were indeed truly impressive. The dates of the public demonstrations will be set after discussions with the finalist companies and, when these are available, we will be advised on our bulletin board. The next meeting of the Friends will be on Wednesday April 28, 1999 at 7 p.m. in the Library's Peters Meeting Room Editorial Note To strengthen our editorial team, the newsletter staff have been reorganized as follows: Editor - Mary Holland Printing & Circulation -Maureen Eagle Contributing Writers -Joanna Knight Ted Hill
