Announcement It was with sorrow that we learned of the untimely death of Tony Scammell on February 15 at the age of 77. Tony was a very, very special friend of the Library. His funeral was held on February 22. Please see page 3 for our tribute to Tony. Membership Welcome to three new Members who have joined recently: Juliet Janes Mina Moinzadeh Margaret Whiffin Renewals due in January have been coming in steadily, and our membership now totals 170. Just a reminder that the Minutes of our meetings are not circulated but are summarised in our newsletter. Copies of the Minutes and our Financial Reports are available from the Library's Administration Office weekdays between 10am and 4pm. The Minutes are tabled at the following month's meeting for discussion and approval. Book Sale The 1999 Book Sale will be held on the weekend of: June 19 - 8.30 am to 4 pm June 20 - 10.00 am to 4 pm The Members' Preview, to be held this year on Friday, June 18 from 6 pm to 8 pm, is a privilege for Members, and a way of saying 'thank you" for all the support given to our Society during the year. A few points to note for this year's Preview: • Open to Members only - no couples unless both are Members; • No children, other than Youth Members: • Entry by membership card -no memberships will be sold at the door. After four years as Coordinator. Wanda Osborne relinquished this role following last year's Sale. This year's Coordinator is Joanna Knight, ably and actively assisted by Patricia Treadwell and Sophia Weremchuk. As this is a "rookie" team, sorting will start earlier than usual -immediately after Easter on April 6. We will again employ the system whereby volunteers come in to sort books whenever they have a couple of hours - rather than allocating time slots. However, those who are new to this activity should have an initial session with an experienced volunteer. Betty O'Sullivan will coordinate this system. Continuous Book Sale To avoid the possibility of either book sale detracting from the other, the start of the Continuous Book Sale will be delayed, possible until the Fall.
