Membership Welcome to two new Members who joined us in November, bringing our membership to 176: Irene Esson Rebecca Chong Minutes of the meetings are not circulated to members as the proceedings are summarised in our newsletter. However, copies of the Minutes, together with copies of the Treasurer's Report, are available from the Library's Administration Office weekdays between 10am and 4pm. The Minutes are tabled at the following month's meeting for discussion and approval. This procedure also applies to the Annual General Meeting. As there is no December meeting of the Friends, the next newsletter will be published in mid-February and will summarise the proceedings of the Annual General Meeting. Hallelujah! Treasurer's Report There are several items for the Library that the Friends agreed to fund during 1998, the invoices for which will not be presented until year end to enable us to achieve maximum interest on funds on deposit. Our Treasurer and President will meet with the Chief Librarian towards the end of the year to pay over these amounts. The Treasurer's Report to be given at the Annual General Meeting will itemize all major 1998 invoices. The Friends'funding of the Library's Language Learning Laboratory is being derived from our Casino 1997. To date, $15,208 has been committed to furnishings, changes to the West Wing, equipment and materials. Funding for additional materials will be drawn from our Casino Account as and when they become necessary. Nominations Committee Thanks are due to Wanda Osborne who has kindly agreed to head up the Committee seeking nominations for the Directors serving on our Society's Executive Committee. At the Annual General Meeting, once the routine business has been concluded, the Directors will retire from office and the election (or reelection) of the five Directors will be held. Christmas Christmas Party Our thanks to Irene Caudwell for serving on the organizing committee for this event to represent the Friends. Also, to Noelene Harland, Betsy Lee and, again, Irene, for baking goodies for this gathering of Staff, Volunteers, Friends, Board, Foundation and Advisory Board Members. Liaison with Council The Library's Board met with members of Council at the Library on November 30. They took this opportunity to present their 6- year long-range plan which has been developed by the Board and Staff and which, it is expected, will be approved at the Board's Annual General Meeting in January. Ann Goodhart has offered to present this plan at our next general meeting in February. The next Meeting of The Friends which will be the Annual General Meeting will be on Wednesday, January 27, 1999 at 7 pm in the Library's Peters' Meeting Room
