Newsletter Issue 118 June, 1998 Membership Welcome to new Members who have recently joined the Friends of the West Vancouver Memorial Library: Farinoush Hafizi Kimber Frenette Kay Meek Our membership now stands at a record high of 146! It is really super that so many people are now joining our organisation in order to support our library. Members are encouraged to attend our monthly meetings -which are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 pm in the Peters meeting room at the Library. However, we do not meet in July and August, so that after our next meeting on June 24 we will not meet again until September 23. Unless, of course, something exceptional happens, in which case we will call a special meeting. Our brochure / application form has this month been revised, rewritten and republished in time for our book sale next week. Chief Librarian Ann Goodhart and her team have produced an excellent document of which we can be proud and which will encourage new members. The important sections reads as follows: The FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY ► assist and support the Board and Staff of the West Vancouver Memorial Library ► ensure that the Library continues to recognize and respond to community needs ► encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the Memorial Library Foundation for use in developing library services and facilities ► assist, as requested, with Foundation activities on behalf of the Library ► promote and extend the programs and services of the Library within the community The FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY ► conduct a high profile annual sale of books and materials ► assist in settting up the exhibits in the Gallery ► host the monthly reception for the artists whose works are on display ► host Remembrance Day reception ► deliver books to homebound patrons ► host other events as requested ► casino nights ► serve one of the busiest libraries in British Columbia ► be invited to the pre-sale evening of the annual book sale ► be entitled to order 10 free reserves ► meet other Friends, including the Board, Volunteers and Staff of the Memorial Library ► be welcome to participate in the monthly meetings of the Friends ► receive the Friends' Newsletter The Friends of the West Vancouver Memorial Library has been in existence since the official opening of the Library on November 11, 1950. It was formally registered as a society under the Province of British Columbia's Society Act in 1989 and has a formal Constitution and by-laws.
