FRIENDS OF THE WEST VANCOUVER MEMORIAL LIBRARY PURPOSE OF ORGANIZATION The purpose of The Friends of The West Vancouver Memorial Library is to: • assist and support the Board and Staff of the West Vancouver Memorial Library; • ensure that the Library continues to recognize and respond to community needs; • encourage gifts, endowments and bequests to the Memorial Library Foundation for use in developing library services and facilities; • assist, if requested to promote and extend the programmes and services of the Library within the community. Some of the major activities of The Friends of The Library include: - conducting a high profile annual sale of discarded books and materials; - hosting the annual reception for those who attend the Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph; - assisting in setting up the Fine Arts displays in the Galleries and with the monthly receptions for the artists whose work in on display; - providing refreshments at the above receptions and other events; - Working under direction of appropriate Library staff in the delivery and collection of books and materials to homebound patrons; - undertaking fundraising activities on behalf of the Library, e.g. book sales and Casino Nights; - sponsoring the Library's Book Donor Program; - supply of floral arrangements when possible; - enhancement of study and meeting spaces in the library; - provision of materials for special collections; - working co-operatively with the Board and staff of the Library to ensure that the community is kept well-informed of the activities, programmes and services of the West Vancouver Memorial Library.
