The Regular Account has been reimbursed the expenses incurred before the casino cheque was received, and the two accounts now stand at: Regular $17,032.29 Casino $32,825.18 The only commitment outstanding on the Regular Account is payment for the Routledge Encyclopaedia of Philosophy. Chief Librarian's Report Ann Goodhart introduced to the meeting Cheryl McGregor, Head of Adult Services, to present details of the proposed English Language Learning Centre, for which purpose the Casino funds are pledged. A summary of this presentation can be found on page 4 of the newsletter. Cheryl also took the opportunity to describe to us, as a separate matter, the library's multilingual collection which, being such an interesting topic, is also summarized on page 4. Recalling the discussion at our May 1997 meeting of the question on an on-going Friends of the Library Book Sale, Ann Goodhart reported on a recent visit to Richmond Public Library. The Friends there run a very successful continuing Sale which appears to be financially successful and does not seem to adversely affect their annual Sale. Our main concern of "staffing the shop" was relieved when Ann reiterated her statement made at the October meeting that Library Staff would look after sales - as they do for the Foundation's umbrellas - leaving us with the task of refilling of the shelves, etc., - tasks which could, perhaps, be shared with the Volunteers.
