Treasurer's Report Ron Lucas distributed copies of his report which, apart from the addition of membership receipts in the amount of $110, indicated little change in the financial picture from the previous month. Total funds as of March 26, 1997, were $25,165.96. Ron will draw a cheque for $1,100 in regard to the CD-ROM collection as soon as an invoice is presented. Board Liaison Joan Creighton, filling in for the absence of Juanita Tupper who sent her regrets, indicated that the two major items for the Board at this time are: ♦ preparing for the handover from Jack Mounce to Ann Goodhart, which will take place over the Victoria Day weekend in May; and ♦ awaiting the expected reduction in Municipal grants to the Library for 1997. The Board expects to hear within the first ten days of April what can be expected for the Library's budget. Joan told us that the Board is planning a reception for Jack on the afternoon of Thursday, May 15, and she asked the Friends to mark their calendars accordingly. She also told us that the Selection Committee members are impressed with Ann Goodhart, and are certain that the Friends will find her a worthy successor to Jack Mounce. Book Sale June 21 and 22 Wanda Osborne continues to explore how arrangements can be improved to ensure the continued success of this important annual event. She has drawn up a schedule of task to be carried out over the next few months which includes the following: ♦ Discussion with West Vancouver Transit in regard to display of posters advertising event in blue buses. ♦ Setting up of large sign in Library Foyer announcing dates and times of this year's sale. ♦ Permission to be sought to install large banner at Park Royal Mall on bridge across Marine Drive. ♦ Organisation of work crews for book sorting in Library basement. Sorting expected to begin May 20, following the Victoria Day weekend. ♦ Working group of 3 to be convened to handle PR activities. Brendan Rowell agreed to contact West Vancouver Transit to determine what is required for the bus posters. Pat Scriviner consented to again do the phoning for book sale volunteers, and Carmina Davila agreed to act as her back up. They will try to ensure that any volunteers helping with the book sale for the first time work with an experienced volunteer. To volunteer to help with the book sale, please telephone: Pat Scrivener at 922-2298; or Carmina Davila at 925-6717. To discuss organisational aspects of the sale, please telephone: Wanda Osborne at 922-0717 Please note that Wanda will be away for the last two weeks in May.
