had not yet had an opportunity to visit the room to do so, drawing particular attention to the fireplace mural painted by staff member and artist Robert Florian. (see page 3 for more about the House.). ♦ Work is progressing slowly on the renovation of the Musto Room. The Friends have already approved a contribution of $3,000 to provide chairs and a table for this room but, unfortunately, the cost of furnishings is estimated to be $469 more than this amount. The Meeting approved a motion to provide an additional $500. Treasurer's Report Ron Lucas's written report was tabled, and is available -along with the meeting's minutes - from the Library's Administration Office weekdays between the hours of 10am and 4pm. In summary, Ron explained to the meeting that: ♦ Receipts for the months of January and February from membership fees were $595. ♦ Expenditure during these two months was $1,818, which included our previously agreed contribution to refurnishings ♦ Funds on hand are $25,083 including a casino fund balance of $1,162.. ♦ Deferred agreed expenditures are: • SI,100 for CD ROM circulation collection; • $2,500 for roof garden solarium design. This latter amount is to be carried forward for the time being. Jack Mounce told us that the Board is still interested in exploring the solarium proposal in discussion with expansion architect Rick Hulbert but, nevertheless, feel that this is not the time to pursue this project with service reductions possible in the near future. Board Liaison The February meeting welcomed our new Board Liaison spokesperson, Juanita Tupper. Juanita reported on the appointment of the new Chief Librarian. Her report also included the information that the Library Foundation has approved an annual fundraising plan for 1997, and was considering a new donor recognition plaque. Explaining that as the Provincial funding for Municipalities is reduced, revenue generation will be a bigger factor in the financing of library services in the future. Corporate logos might be one means of supporting this. Juanita indicated that, as a new member of the Library Board, she is looking forward to working with the Friends, and invited us to communicate through her to the Board. Book Sale The news that we have all been waiting for! It was agreed that the date of the 1997 Book Sale would be the weekend of June 21 and 22 Wanda Osborne has again agreed to orchestrate this important event - thank you Wanda. The meeting agreed that planning for the sale should be the priority for our March meeting. Book sorting is expected to begin in April. Already Wanda is exploring what improvements can be made to increase the efficiency of the sale, including arrangements for the stack of discarded books in the basement to ensure enough working room is left. She will welcome any suggestions, so do please call her at 922-0717 or Pat Scrivener at 922-2298. Book Plates Natalie Logan has kindly volunteered to proceed with the proposal, agreed at our November meeting, of designing and producing book plates for inclusion in the Dictionary of Art volumes
