Just a reminder that all members - old and new - are encouraged to join the monthly meetings, held at 7 pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month. The new method of handling memberships, which was initiated in January 1996, giving each member a clear 12 months of participation, rather than all memberships terminating at year end, has been well received. Renewal membership cards and receipts are included in the mailing of the monthly newsletter, but new members are sent their documentation immediately. The recently adopted system of including a summary of meetings in the newsletter - rather than circulating the minutes - was reviewed at the AGM when it was decided to continue this practice. In the case of the AGM, those who actually attended will receive the minutes. A copy of the minutes, together with financial statements, may be collected from the Library's Administration Office weekdays between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Copies of the previous month's minutes will be available at each current meeting. Art Displays Helen Kwok, K.C. Chung, Jennie Cheng and Tsing Chow are the four artists whose work was displayed in the Library Gallery during the month of January. They chose the theme "Dance of the Ink," described as "The flow of the ink as it moves to the music of the artist." Each of the four artists is currently studying with the Frank Tam Art Studio. Our thanks to Elsa O'Connor and Melba Weber for graciously hosting the reception at the commencement of the exhibition. This event received good coverage in The North Shore News. The current display, which began on February 3, features the work of Liberia Marcuzzi. Special Events Sharing Christmas Cheer A gathering of Libraty Staff, Volunteers, Friends, Board, Foundation and Honorary Advisory Board Members gathered in the Peter J. Peters Room on December 12 last for their Second Annual joint Christmas Party. As in 1995, this proved to be such a congenial affair that it was generally agreed that it should become a Library Christmas tradition. Door prizes, carol singing and a bounteous buffet organized by staff members contributed to a most pleasant afternoon. Casino Night An application for a Casino Licence has been submitted to the B.C. Gaming Commission. Processing of the application will take about 5 months from date of submission, after which time we will be informed as to whether or not the application has been successful. If successful, a Licence will be issued informing us of the dates of the event, which will be in approximately a further 5 months' time. Therefore, it would seem that the earliest the event can be held will be November The call for volunteers in our December newsletter brought an excellent response, and we are looking forward to working with the following: Judy Gosney; Ron Lucas; Brendan Rowell; Wanda Osbourne; Joanna Scott; Joan Skipper; Bob Tod; Anne Graves and Roxanna Eshghi.
