Special Events The launch on October 26 of Judge Nancy Morrisons's book 'Bruno: Love in the Kitchen" commemorating actor Bruno Gerussi was well attended. The book has attracted much media intention. Thank you to Friends Natalie Logan, Barbara Moyle and Marguerite Cassetta for graciously hosting this occasion and serving refreshments provided by Murchie's. Library Attendance The meeting was pleased to learn, from Jack Mounce's report, that library usage continues to increase, with September's attendance being 5.5% higher than same month last year. New Arrivals Two important and exciting new additions to the Library are scheduled to arrive this month, the first being the magnificent "The Dictionary of Art", financed by funds raised by the Friends. Association Liaison Ted Hill told our October meeting that he had contacted other libraries on the north shore, and that the North Vancouver District Public Library had formed their own "Friends of the Library" group last February. However, the group had not, as yet, developed to the point of being able to produce a newsletter, this being one of their goals. It was agreed that we should send them a copy of our monthly newsletter, and noted that they would reciprocate when in a position to do so. Art Displays It is well worth a visit to the Memorial Library Art Gallery to iiew Sheila Jonah's work currently on view there. Inspired by iter Celtic heritage, she has produced interesting zinc etchings, imocuts on handmade paper, and abstracts of mythical and sacred images. These are on display until the end of November. During December, the works of Gina Charles and Elaine Sills will be on show in the Gallery. Nominations for 1997 Nominations have been received for the positions of Secretary and Membership Secretary, both of which will fall vacant at the end of the year. However, volunteers and nominations are required for the post of Treasurer. This position involves only a few hours monthly, and the rewards are stimulating. Nominations / volunteers should be directed to Eileen de Bues at 922 6446. Irene Cauldwell, once she has recovered from her accident, would be happy to discuss the duties involved. Secondly, computer equipment, funded by a Provincial grant is scheduled to be installed, providing four internet stations. The term "surfing the net" captures the excitement and fun of information exploration. Contact can be made with computers located hundreds or even thousands of miles away, and the vast amount of information on a multitude of topics is continuously increasing and almost infinite. Condolences to our Treasurer We were sorry to learn that jur Treasurer, Irene Caudwell, has recently suffered an injury, and we all send her our very best wishes for a speedy recovery. Irene, we miss you!
