NEWSLETTER No. 89 June 1995 Dear Friend of the Library, NEXT MEETING Wednesday, June 28th, 1995 at 7:00 p.m. in the Peter J . Peters Meeting Room. (This newsletter comes to you earlier this month with information about the Booksale and Members' Preview which takes place BEFORE our next meeting - see below) MEMBERSHIP There are currently 99 members including Elsa O'Connor and Craig Bowlsby, whom we welcome to the Friends. ARTISTS' RECEPTION The next reception will be on July 3rd from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. with artists Tim Harvey and Lome Topham in attendance. Their exhibitions "Polaroid Transfers" and "Harmony in Nature" respectively will continue to July 29th. BOOK SALE '95: JUNE 24TH & 25TH AT THE LIBRARY (8:30 A.M. TO 4:00 P.M.) This year the build-up to our annual booksale is less onerous, also less costly, than it has been for the three preceding years, when it was held in the Ice Arena. It has come home to the Library, so that all that pre-sorting into numerous boxes, transportation to the Arena, unpacking and setting up on tables has been dissolved into simultaneous sorting and setting up on shelving in the Library. Even so, many hours have been "put in" by the willing helpers doing precisely that. (It is also good exercise - after sorting a random boxful you walk about to find the appropriate shelves on which to place the sorted books!) Well done, everybody and thanks for your help. And special words of appreciation for Wanda Osborne, who is coordinating it all this year for the first time, for her very able assistant, Betsy Lee, and for Betty Neilson who has been working behind the scenes recruiting and setting up work schedules for all the book-sorting volunteers. (I understand sorting is now completed) Our publicity activities are also underway, including posters and signs, ads on the West Van Blue Buses, notifications in schools, posters in store windows, and, on schedule, our banner on the footbridge at Park Royal. BOOK SALE PREVIEW: "FRIENDS" PLEASE NOTE! Friends, bearing their 1995 Friends of the Library membership cards, will be entitled to the usual privileged advance preview of the book sale on FRIDAY. JUNE 23RD between 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. Please don't forget your membership card as it will be required for admission to this special preview. (Members only please!)
