TOP CATS: NO. 1 (From "Country Living" Magazine, December 1994) Billy the Bookshop Cat: Every day Billy climbs into Sonia Bensteris car and travels the five miles to work at the Children's Bookshop in Lindley, a suburb of Huddersfield. It is a hard day, with much to do. He has to sleep in the sunshine amid books in the front window and lure inquisitive passers-by into the shop with his nonchalant poise. Then he may entertain local children by snatching marbles from the toy corner. At precisely 4:50 p.m. Billy marches up to the counter to indicate the end of another working day. "They say all shops should have a unique selling point and Billy is ours," says Mrs. Benster. Billy loves being read to, which is instructive for his young visitors. His favourite book? Dick WhOtington. FINAL WORD Pleasure is very seldom found where it is sought. Our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks. Samuel Johnson Tony Scammell Editor
