NEWSLETTER No.70 October 1993 Dear Friend of the Library, NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, October 27th, 1993 at 7:00 p.m. in the Peter J. Peters Meeting Room. CELEBRATE WITH US I SEPTEMBER 18TH, 1993 And they did! in large numbers. Several of us were involved in picking up food items from the generous and public-spirited local merchants, on the Friday and Saturday; the quantities seemed more than ample for the occasion. Preparation of hors d'oeuvres by the caterers was excellent, the cookies were there in bulk (1,500 plus) and the four celebration cakes looked impressive. But, by the end, there were only two cookies and two squares remaining! Whenever our team went out to replenish the tables with more of everything, they often arrived at their target with most of their load already snapped up on the way! Coffee, tea and juice flowed continually, which kept the cup-and-saucer movers busy. It literally went well. The new main area of our remodelled old library building inside the main entrance is now a large, open and delightful space for such public gatherings, and was packed solidly for what was an excellent opening ceremony, with its many speakers and their words of appreciation for all the many volunteers who had planned and worked so hard to raise the funds and to bring it all about. It was so nice to have Elizabeth Musto, our First Librarian, there to help cut the ribbon. When it was all over, the Friends maintained their tradition of "still keep going when the rest have stopped", to finish cleaning up. Rather like the rabbit beating the drum in the battery advert! Well done everybody! You can rest on your laurels, until Remembrance Day, anyway. ....../2
