FREE LECTURE SERIES Ann Pearson is organising a series of free lectures on behalf of the Library Board. The dates and speakers will be as follows: October 14: Dr. Ivan Head, economist. Dr. Head's lecture will focus on the shifting economic trends between Northern and Southern Hemisphere nations. He will emphasize the growing strength of some previously under-estimated nations - e.g. Chile. October 28: Jack Whyte, author. He will focus on the Arthurian legend and his solution to the sword in the stone mystery. November 25: Peter Hyslop, engineer, project manager for the Lions Gate Crossing. His lecture will centre on the various alternatives to the Lions Gate Crossing -- a timely and highly political subject. All will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Library's new meeting room. FROM FIRST DAYS TO FIRST RATE: "FOOTPRINTS" NO.6: CONCLUSION Metamorphosis: High tech enters the library Having passed its 30th birthday, the library was firmly committed to the electronic age. In November 1979 the Board allocated money for automation research, and the prime expense in 1979 "would be a learning one." ....../2
